How detrimental is power boating (ie skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing) to smaller bodies of water?

September 13th, 2009 — 9:58am

A lake in my county is being studied as to whether it is a canidate for an ‘ecozone’ in which a cetain section of the body of water would be designated for only boats power by electric motors or less. This would encompass maybe 5% or less of the entire body of water. It is a free country and pleasure boaters have as much right to be on the water as everyone else. But it is frustrating to see an otherwise nice lake be churned into slop.

Fossil Fuel Exhausts
There is a case for all bodies of water below a certain size to be accessible only to non-motorised craft for reasons already outlined herein, plus the fact that most of the motor-craft would use fossil fuels which
- put exhaust into the lake area (some motor exhaust goes straight into the water)
- contributes to accelerated climate change

Sorry, I don’t have exact sources, other than all recent environmental science textbooks (First Year textbooks give good overviews of burning fuels)

Search "combustion + engine + exhausts"

Freedom = responsibility
A ‘free country’ like Australia or USA means we have the freedom to weigh the needs of future generations with needs of the present, which leads to a responsibility to prevent damage to our heritage (and all public spaces).

Its a camera that you can attach to anything basically. The picture has it on a helmet, but its designed to go on handlebars or anything like that (I would like to use it on a jetski too).

Good luck.

Wakeboard Tricks Flips off a small wake

August 12th, 2009 — 7:35am

Just a pretty good set of flips from the heelside off a rather small wake. This is on Coon Creek, Smith Lake, Alabama. I know the second flip is called a tantrum but I am not sure about the first and second ones other than a backflip and a frontflip, respectively. Please let me know if you do know the names of the tricks. Thanks and enjoy!

I’m going wakeboarding for the first time tomorrow, any tips?

August 2nd, 2009 — 1:44pm

I’m excited, but I’m nervous, too. What are some good tips I should keep in mind?

Hold on to the rope! Most people when there getting up if they would just hold onto the rope a little bit long they would have it. Also don’t try to fight the pull of the boat, let it pull you up. Don’t try to turn the board until your completely on top of the water, you can ride across the whole lake with the board sideways, don rush to turn it. And once you are up hold the rope close to you hip, if you hold it out you are more likely to fall and lose your balance,.

Wakeboarding and Snowboarding?

February 19th, 2009 — 5:52am

I am a snowboarder and i want to sstart wakeboarding. My dad bought me a HO soul 5….it is a used board and has no bindings or anything with it. I was going to start wakeboarding in may but we had to go to some family reunion instead (crazy family) so i need to know what kind of bindings to get. We are going in two weeks to the lake and i will have plenty of time to practice because i live in AZ and even in the winter we still go to the lake lol. Any pointers on how to start wakeboarding would be cool.

Since you have two weeks, you should pick up a copy of ‘The Book’ Wakeboarding Instructional DVD series and check out Disc 2, Basic Foundations. This DVD will show you better than we can tell you how to start off. Since you snowboard, I suspect you have the balance and edging abilities necessary to wakeboard. Like has already been stated, once you can get up regular, practice riding switch as soon as possible. There are plenty of exercises on the DVD that will give you the knowledge you need to get cooking.

As far as binding, I like the LF Alpha bindings, really comfortable and not a bad price either. Since it is the end of the Summer season, prices are dropping so there should be some good deals out there. Good luck and welcome to the sport.

Also, check out http://www.wakeboarder.com there are lots of folks from all over the country and plenty in AZ that you could hook up with for a pull if you don’t have you own boat, plus riding with others who are better than you, tends to push your own progression.
