I’ve been wakeboarding about a year now and I am wondering if it I should get a wakeboard tower? My boat has a 10 inch pole with a loop on the end to tie my rope to. I don’t really want to pay $600-$2000 for a tower.. I was told if you have a tower it helps you go higher in the air and you can do more tricks?

you should defiantly get a tower. You can go higher with a tower so you can get more tricks off. There is also the size of the wake. Which makes you go higher or not so high. Get A NATIQUE BOAT THEY ARE THE BEST

admin http:// <![CDATA[Wakeboarding?]]> http://www.wakeboardzone.org/blog/wakeboarding-tricks/wakeboarding-5 2010-02-20T13:17:03Z 2010-02-20T13:17:03Z My parents just got a boat and I wanted to start wakeboarding. I have been snowbaording for almost 10 years and I am a pretty good water skier, but I was wondering what kind of board I should get. For the most part I will just ride around, but I would like to learn some tricks eventually. What kind of board is the best for this type of activity?

Along with renting some demo boards from your local board shop to find the board that would best fit your abilities and your desired progression. If you want to review the various manufacturers online, check out Wakesides wakeboard site.

http://www.wakeside.com/page/w/CTGY/wakeboards_wakeboard

Click on a manufacturer and then simply scroll your cursor over the boards to see their defined characteristics. This should give you an idea of the boards to look at first.

Being that you are an experienced snowboarder, you should not have much trouble after getting up. Edging on a wakeboard is similar to snowboarding. You will have the addition of fins and perhaps channels on the bottom of the board to provide stability and control.

May I also suggest checking out ‘The Book’ DVD Wakeboarding series. This 5 DVD set will provide all of the information you ever wanted to know about wakeboarding. The first DVD covers an introduction of sorts about equipment from history to current design as well as learning your way around a boat and how to boat safely. While this wouldn’t replace a course in boating safety, it will cover some important information to know. The second DVD will be your ideal starting point for learning the basic fundamentals and help you to avoid any progression pit falls. The DVD’s can be purchase seperately but the better deal is for all of them. Also available on Wakeside or any other wakeboarding site.

There is also some good forums at http://forums.wakeboarder.com/, here your will find great information and contacts from all over the world. Probably the best wakeboarding community on-line. Hope this information gets you what you need to get out there and start enjoying this great sport. Good luck and most of all, have fun!

admin http:// <![CDATA[How can I get a wakeboarding sponsor?]]> http://www.wakeboardzone.org/blog/wakeboarding-tricks/how-can-i-get-a-wakeboarding-sponsor 2010-02-17T14:19:01Z 2010-02-17T14:19:01Z I am getting quite good at wakeboarding, and have learnt a few tricks. I will enter a contest soon, and would like to get a sponsor after it. Any ideas??

Next time you are out wakeboarding, have your buddies video tape you. Put together a video of yourself showing some of your tricks, your runs, etc. and then mail it into some wakeboard companies….

This is no different then a high school football player sending in tape of them to colleges to try and get a scholarship….Same deal.

Other things to check out: Fuel TV’s Unsponsored program, Jamie O’Brien (pro surfer who makes his own videos) at jamieobrien.com……

Good luck

I’m an advanced level snowboarder so I have good balance but how long will it take to get decent at wakeboarding? I’m not looking to do flips, tricks or anything like that I just want to get good enough at it so I can stand up and ride so I can pass the time until next winter comes around

Also, compared to snowboarding how high is the risk of injury?

i am a competative waterskier and have done a good amount of wakeboarding. i learned to get up on wakeboard on my second attempt and i have also taught others to do this. i taught a 12 year old girl how to wakeboard in about 7 or 8 attempts and she loved it. she had never done any watersports and very little snow skiing of snowboarding. u being a snowboarder i think u will get up in about 5 tries. definitely on your first day. just get a buddy who knows how to wakeboard and he’ll teach you how to get up no problem

ok, first off you’re gonna need to be more specific about what you want to accomplish here, if you’re not doin’ at least some basic inverts (tantrum, front roll, back roll, and half cabs, or spins (360 or 540) and basic grabs then you still got a ways to go.

That’s a really good question. When i went and bought my liquid force trip (which is awesome). The guy that helped me said that hyperlites ride heavier and are heavier boards in the water. so i would say they are for more advanced riders. liquid forces tend to be lighter so i think they allow for more control. if you live anywhere near a herb bauer (the only one i know of is in fresno) you should check them out they are really helpful and would have a lot of sales going on since they are trying to unload the 07′s before the 08′s arrive.

Oh just incase people don’t know what wakeboarding is its a watersport kind of like slolum skiing only your strapped to a bigger board sideways, kind of like snowboarding on the water.

That isn’t a good idea. I know it’s going to be tough to be pregnant over the summer, I’m gonna have to do it too. Anyway, God forbid something bad happened and you fell or hit something… this could be terrible news for your baby. Just don’t risk it, a life is more important than a day of fun. :)

admin http:// <![CDATA[Wakeboarding question?]]> http://www.wakeboardzone.org/blog/wakeboarding-tricks/wakeboarding-question 2010-01-09T09:06:02Z 2010-01-09T09:06:02Z im starting to try some more advanced tricks while wakeboarding. my first goal is to complete a tantrum (back flip). i know how to do the trick i just have a quick question. when i cut to the wake i need to straighten out the board to start the flipping motion. my question is: how do i keep my speed from my cut and convert it to getting more air if i slow down to straighten the board. when i straighten the board, wont that take some of my speed away? help on how to keep my speed to get higher so i can complete the trick

That’s awesome that you are onto tantrums, those are one of my favorite inverts to do. Well you switch and straighten your board just before you reach the wake and then switch to ts at the top of the wake. Yeah it will kinda slow you down but its not enough to really slow you down and prevent you from doing the trick. Practice switching and doing your edge for a while before you go for the tantrum and practice cutting into the wake and then at the last second switch back and cut away (its awesome and makes a HUGE spray).

This might help….
