I want to start wakeboarding, but I am not a very committed person.. It might be because I have not found something that I really enjoy yet or because I get bored of things easily, but I was wondering if wakeboarding would be a good sport that will be a lot of fun and also keep me interested for a long time. Oh and is it good exercise? Thanks.

Yes definately! If you have access to a boat regularly, trust me, you will be doing it as often as you can! Best advice, get someone who is experienced and willing to teach you and try to get your friends involved in it. After your sets, you can hang out, drink, swim, cruise around, it’s an all around great sport! haha Enjoy.

I am a snowboarder and i want to sstart wakeboarding. My dad bought me a HO soul 5….it is a used board and has no bindings or anything with it. I was going to start wakeboarding in may but we had to go to some family reunion instead (crazy family) so i need to know what kind of bindings to get. We are going in two weeks to the lake and i will have plenty of time to practice because i live in AZ and even in the winter we still go to the lake lol. Any pointers on how to start wakeboarding would be cool.
Since you have two weeks, you should pick up a copy of ‘The Book’ Wakeboarding Instructional DVD series and check out Disc 2, Basic Foundations. This DVD will show you better than we can tell you how to start off. Since you snowboard, I suspect you have the balance and edging abilities necessary to wakeboard. Like has already been stated, once you can get up regular, practice riding switch as soon as possible. There are plenty of exercises on the DVD that will give you the knowledge you need to get cooking.
As far as binding, I like the LF Alpha bindings, really comfortable and not a bad price either. Since it is the end of the Summer season, prices are dropping so there should be some good deals out there. Good luck and welcome to the sport.
Also, check out http://www.wakeboarder.com there are lots of folks from all over the country and plenty in AZ that you could hook up with for a pull if you don’t have you own boat, plus riding with others who are better than you, tends to push your own progression.

I want to start wakeboarding but i don’t know where to start. What size board should i get i’m around 120-130 pounds and about 5 foot 8. Any tips would be greatly appreciated…but i guess i’m just gonna teach myself so any pointers would save me some time.
Thanks
Zues graet answer thanks
I got my board and i have a few questions..
Does it matter which way i stand for the board(like where should i put my boots)?
Should i angle the boots?(right foot in back)
Which way should i put the 2 fins?
Thanks
with your size and weight, the board you should be looking to get would be a 134cm board to a 136 cm board, wakeboard sizing is based entirely on your weight, not on height. until you hit 160lbs, this is the size board you should be riding on.
as for pointers..
the absolute hardest part of wakeboarding is learning how to get up. but once you get up, it feels so natural, so dont get frustrated if it takes a few tries…
to begin this, sit in a ball position with your knees bent and your butt hitting your heels… your arms should be bent around the outside of your knees so that you are holding the handle in front of you..
when you are ready… keep your body in the ball postion while slightly pushing the board ahead of you.. as soon as your board planes, turn it to the side you are comfortable with and pull the handle to your front hip. many begginners have a problem of edging outside of the wake without meaning to.. to correct this.. let go with your back ahnd to keep your body aligned and stand up straight with about 60% of youre weight on your back foot, 40% on the front…
once you’re ready and comfortable to go outside the wake.. you’ll probably feel more comfortable going out to your heel side first. to do this, act like you are sitting in a chair or act like your standing on the balls of your feet and keep the handle close to you, this will improve the control of your board. to go out on your toe side edge, act like you’re standing on your toes but the important thing to remember is keep your chest pointed towards the sky and the handle close to youre front hip.. once you have this down, its all muscle memory and youll get better and better the more you practice..
good luck, hope this helps.
